Luxe ceramics are certainly having a moment, with many preferring to entertain in their homes than eat out. While there are a number of new, bespoke ceramics brands popping up, we are proud to stock one of the originals in high-end, designer tableware in Bordallo Pinheiro.
Bordallo Pinheiro was established in Portugal in 1884, when artist and ceramicist Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro opened his first ceramics factory. Bordallo Pinheiro became famous for taking traditional items and forms and putting his own artistic twist on them, handcrafting items of extreme quality such as tiles, vase busts, perfume bottles, vases and of course tableware. His work was of such quality that he was awarded a gold medal at numerous international exhibitions during the late 19th century.
In the years since then, Bordallo Pinheiro has grown to become a world renowned ceramics company that has produced many iconic designs. None more so, perhaps, than the stunning cabbage range of tableware. The use of the cabbage in these pieces was a nod to the lower classes in Portugal, who often used the humble (and affordable) cabbage in their cooking. Making this into beautiful ceramics that would grace the tables of the wealthy was subversive, which is something Bordallo Pinheiro was renowned for. Today, they are still favoured by stylish homemakers internationally.
Made in Portugal and featuring hand painted designs, all Bordallo Pinheiro products are microwave and dishwasher safe. Treated with care, they are designed to last a lifetime and be passed through families for generations. Now available at Crisp in white as well as the traditional green, Bordallo Pinheiro artistic earthenware is perfect for the Christmas table setting, or a generous gift for the entertainer in your life.
