Trending: Statement Sleeves

We’ve seen a few trends continue from last winter into this current season - animal prints are still everywhere, as are bright colours and neons. But there’s one trend we can’t get enough of, and that’s the statement sleeve. A fun sleeve takes the most simple blouse and transforms it into something fun and fashion forward, and best of all it can easily be worn with jeans or black pants and still have you looking like you’ve stepped off the runway. We’ve taken a look at three of our most popular sleeve styles below.

1. The Bishop Sleeve

Named after, you guessed it, the sleeve of a bishop’s robe, the bishop sleeve is a long sleeve that is fuller at the bottom than at the top, and gathered at the bottom with a large cuff. First popular in the mid-1800s, it is probably most synonymous with the 1960s, frequently featured on a cute mini-dress. Recently we’ve seen them come back with a vengeance, and we are loving them! Because they are quite elegant, they can work with a flounce or pleat skirt as well as a pant. Get the look with our Hallie Blouse, Dakota Shirt or Fitzroy Blouse

2. The Balloon Sleeve

Not dissimilar to the bishop sleeve, the ballon sleeve gathers to a cuff but has more fabric throughout the arm, “ballooning” between the wrist and upper arm. This style is extremely flattering on all body shapes, and works well with a tailored pant or skinny jean. Get the look with our White Artist Top, Cheetah Top or St Kilda Knit Jumper.

3. The Flounce Sleeve

The pretty little sister of the iconic ‘70s bell sleeve, the flounce sleeve is a standard long or 3/4 sleeve that has a circular “flounce” of fabric on the cuff. This style is extremely feminine, and can be either very formal or casual depending on the fabric used. Try it either way with our beautiful formal Isla blouse, our casual Optimistic Tee or Go ultra-feminine with the Priya Dress.

So take the plunge and embrace the statement sleeve trend - it’s not going anywhere and you won’t regret it!
